Enrolment Information for Independent Distance Learners (IDL)


2012/2013 students


Online enrolment is now open on MyHWU.

You need to be enrolled for each academic session before you can access online tools for study, such as Vision.

To enrol online you will need the following login details:

USER ID: Heriot-Watt University Person ID
new students will find their Person ID on any recent correspondence from the University

PIN: Your date of birth will be your PIN number
in the format ddmmyy, e.g. 010380 for 1st March 1980

Once you have completed your enrolment process please wait 24 hours before logging in to Vision to see your registered course materials.



Enrolment involves logging in to an online system to check and update personal details and agreeing to the University's terms and conditions. This needs to be done annually in September regardless of when a student first enrolled.

Enrolment for students will include the following:

  • Confirmation of Personal and Statistical Information
  • Confirmation of Contact Details
  • Upload a passport-style photo for student card
  • Confirmation of Programme Details
  • Contact information for enquiries regarding tuition fees
  • Acceptance of University terms and conditions
