Vision

This vision behind the Centre is that the realised vision of the 70's that Scotland could become a major player in worldwide oil & gas production and related R&D, can be refocused on the remobilisation of this research resource to contribute to this major international challenge.

The Scottish Funding Council, SFC, funding is providing the essential pump priming, refurbishment, experimental, modelling and personnel that is stimulating the development of sustainable research in this international high-profile arena.

The project is enabling and accelerating opportunities using existing and complementary strengths in the participating 5* & 5 rated institutions of Heriot-Watt University (Institute of Petroleum Engineering), University of Edinburgh (School of Geological Sciences) and enable interaction with the significant expertise developed by the British Geological Survey in this global issue. Furthermore, as the only Scottish University in the European Network of Excellence CO₂ GeoNet, Heriot-Watt provides an important link to this relevant international activity.
