Sustainability - Other Research Projects

Although initially funded by the Scottish Funding Council the objective is that by the end of the 4 year funding period SCCS will be self sustaining with research activities being funded by private as well as public funding organisations.

Besides the themes and projects outlined above a number of other CO2 storage related research projects are being progressed.

  • Applications Of Tracers For Monitoring CO2 Storage And Enhanced Gas Recovery At Two Field Sites (K12B And Ketzin).
    CO2GeoNet, IPE

  • An investigation into the fundamental processes governing CO2 Storage and Enhanced Coalbed Methane Recovery in coal seams stimulated by Underground Coal Gasification. CO2GeoNet IPE

  • Enhanced Oil Recovery From Depleted Oil Reservoirs Through CO2.
    CO2GeoNet IPE

  • Geological Models, Heterogeneity Catalogue and Scale-relations.
    CO2GeoNet IPE

  • Development Of a Low Cost Alert System For The CO2 Storage, Based On Active And Passive Seismics.
    CO2GeoNet IPE

  • Improved Heavy Oil Recovery by Water-CO2 Flood. Joint industry project *

  • Can CO2 hydrate formation act as a safety factor for subsurface storage of CO2?
    EPSRC

  • Capillary controls on gas hydrate growth and dissociation in synthetic and natural porous media.
    EPSRC

  • 'Enhanced Oil Recovery by Carbonated Water Injection'.
    Joint industry project *

  • CO2 EOR and Storage: A Combined Approach Using Pore-Scale Modelling and Core-Scale Simulation. This IPE proposal describes a project aimed at reducing uncertainties in the prediction of geochemical behaviour, poro-perm evolution and relative permeability during CO2 EOR and storage in depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs. The project sets out to investigate a number of different aspects of CO2 injection at the pore-scale and to combine insights gained from this approach with core-scale simulation. The ultimate aim of the study is the development of a theoretical framework within which to design and interpret experimental and field development programmes.
