Institute of Petroleum Engineering

Overview

The ability to measure and predict the thermodynamic behaviour of oil and gas reservoir fluids is vital to the development of new oil and gas fields, the design and selection of transmission and processing facilities, and the valuation of alternative recovery techniques. Major research programmes, supported by multi-company sponsorship, using the department's extensive PVT (pressure, volume, temperature) facilities are presently being pursued. The overall procedure and objective are to generate high quality and comprehensive data in various production scenarios as the basis for the development and validation of integrated reservoir-well-surface facility predictive numerical models.
