Research Coordination Committee
The RCC provides connectivity between the Strategic Advisory Board (advisors from major oil & service companies who sponsor research), the IPE management team, Joint Industry Project group leaders, non-industry funding organisations and Heriot-Watt University via the Research Coordination Board.
The remit of this committee is to sustain and enhance the current high level of research output in the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, to ensure our continued success as a premier research institute. This involves stimulating and developing new research projects and initiatives, promoting good research practice, creating general awareness in funding opportunities, ensuring that there are sufficient resources for research activity, and providing opportunities for young researchers to fulfil their potential. The committee monitors the progress of individual researchers and projects with a view to helping them maintain their efficiency, and generating statistics for the RAE exercise.
Committee members
The remit of this committee is to devise and implement strategies to ensure effective learning on all of the research programmes in the Institute. In this case, learning includes all of the activity generated by an active research programme: development of research personnel, equipment, techniques, training of post graduate students etc. The committee monitors the progress of research developments, proposals, new areas of interest, generates statistics for the RAE exercise and links with the University Research Coordination Board.
Specific functions are devolved to sub-committees as required. The committee is lead by Prof. Dorrik Stow and comprises representatives from the main research groups in the Institute.
