A Correlation for Predicting the Hydrate Stability Zone in the Presence of Ice

A new correlation is presented which calculates the hydrate free zone of petroleum reservoir fluids, as well as simple hydrate forming compounds in the presence of ice. The only input required is the hydrate dissociation pressure at the normal freezing point of water (273.15 K). This value can easily be obtained from experimental data or from an earlier correlation developed by the authors.
The new correlation can be used with hand-held calculator as a tool for estimating the hydrate stability zone in the ice region, as well as providing an initial guess for more sophisticated computer programs.
