Abstract 005

Gas Hydrate Formation and Inhibition Prediction

Tohidi, B., Burgass, R. W., Danesh, A., and Todd, A. C.
IChemE SONG Conference: Hydrate 92, London, 24th June (1992).

The presentation reviews briefly hydrate prediction approaches and concentrates on hydrate inhibition of injected chemicals (methanol) and also the inhibiting effect of saline water, i.e., produced water. A thermodynamic approach is presented which includes the solubility of gas in saline water. The use of two experimental systems to validate predictions is described. These systems include phase compositional capability. The current limitations of hydrate formation predictions in the presence of oil/condensate is highlighted.
