European Carbon Dioxide Thematic Network (CO2NET) |
|
|
CO2NET is the European Network of researchers, developers and users of CO2 technology, facilitating co-operation between these organisations and the European projects on CO2 geological storage, CO2 capture and zero emissions technologies. CO2NET is making a major contribution to the reduction in CO2 emissions to the atmosphere so that Europe has a continued stable supply of affordable and environmentally acceptable energy. This is being achieved through the European Network to enable informed decision-making on determining whether capture and storage into geological formations can be achieved cost effectively and safely and zero emissions can be achieved. CO2NET is a Knowledge Transfer Network and is developing into a technology provider-user Network to build confidence in and encourage uptake of technologies towards meeting European and world emissions reduction objectives. The Network provides a "think-tank" of expertise, information for policy-making and facilitates the decision-making process at European and national level. The Network has become the European Research Area "Virtual Centre of Excellence" for CO2 storage, capture, reduction and elimination, in order to establish safe, technically feasible, socially acceptable CO2 mitigation options for wide scale introduction. |
